Basically, a DITFT is a possibility to encounter all the wonderful possibilities The Sims 3 provides for us. Usually, I follow the same paths with my sims every time I play, which is why I now want to force myself to try new things.
The rules I follow (more or less) can be found here. I will not put down any points for this, for two reasons:
1. The system is too complicated for me
2. I already count points in my current ISBI-challenge and that's all the points I can take at the moment. ;)
The current (and past) generation objections will be published online, so that you can see what my sims are up to at the moment. Please check the page "DITFT Generations" for further information and updates.
As to the description "Musical DITFT": I decided not only to try a DITFT, which I have found very interesting for quite some time now, but to mix it up a little. Therefore, all my heirs and spouses will be named after famous or less famous artists, alphabetically. The surname, "Vocis", is Latin and means "voices".
My foundress is called Anna, because A is the first letter in the alphabet. Her name also links to the wonderful Anna Depenbusch, a singer/songwriter from Germany whose music I love very much.
Also, a side note on my chapter titles: they are lines taken from songs by the current heir, that is to say his or her "real life model".
Have fun on my blog! If you have any questions or comments that do not fit my blog, feel free to send me an email:

You know, because I am a computer geek, I've been pondering the nature of multigenerational Sims challenges. It seems like there are three ways to mix things.
ReplyDelete1. Gameplay. Like a DITFT or an ISBI, the challenge specifies how you play the game and what you're trying to accomplish within an individual sim's lifetime.
2. How the next generation (heir) is chosen, e.g. bloodline, heir poll, Six Degrees of Separation. etc.
3. Naming schemes, e.g. The Name Game, your characteracy, this musical theme.
You can really choose something from each category and mix it up into a single challenge and all the pieces will still work :).
I've never seen the appeal to challenges like The Name Game, 100 babies, etc. because they only dictate how many kids you have and maybe what you name them. That seems like a small part of the game to me. But if you mix them up with a gameplay challenge, THEN those kinds of things start to get interesting.
I also think that those gameplay choices are the most important ones, since they prescribe the way you are supposed to handle your sims. Although those naming scheme things can get tough, too (for example when you have to have 26 babies, one for each letter of the alphabet), it takes something more to make them really exciting and...well, challenging. When it comes to choosing the heir, I have never limited my game to one - depending on the choices, I either call the heir myself or let you guys choose, or kind of both. So I would take that category out of my personal mix. Still, that makes two categories than can be combined easily and with interesting results. And who knows, maybe there is even more. Or I'll someday find a way to mix things up within the first category. But I solemnly swear that I WON'T start a fourth challenge right now, that would pretty much kill me^^ three is actually too much already, but I really want to tell those stories. At the moment I'm not too busy with my classes, but in a few weeks that is going to change. Then there won't be new chapters in every legacy every day, ergo less work. Who knows where I am then - maybe the Wishacy is already over because Julie refused to meet anybody^^
DeleteHa! You can always save Julie with her free day. That's the standard way to solve that problem. You can't get out of that so easily :).
DeleteOh, on the list of heir choices in challenges, there's patriarchies and matriarchies. The Fallen ISBI says that a child who rolls the Evil or Good trait must be heir. Some challenges say that the firstborn must be heir. The Random Legacy Challenge dictates the exact number of children and which one will be heir for each generation.
I pretty much pick whoever I want to write for the Samples. I'm trying to hold myself to strictly to heir polls with the Wonderlands. I'm picking the heir for Waypoint, but it has to be someone unrelated to my current patron and outside the household. So those are three fairly different ways to change generations.
I'm not going to be able to play for a while because I'm spending a few days with my parents. Hopefully I'll be able to get closer to caught up on my posting!
Oh, thank you so much for listing all these different possibilities! :) I hadn't thought about most of these, but since no heir is in sight yet (or a spouse.... -.-), I could still choose. Maybe this actually WILL be done properly. I'll check out the possibilities and let you guys know as soon as I decided.
DeleteHave fun with your parents! :)
And yes, the free day is probably the only option I'm having. Maybe she finds someone at university, that would totally be on free will, but after that..I'll have to think that through. If only she was interested in anybody!
